DVD MPEG-2 ENCODING:
Encoding high-quality film and video for DVD is accomplished using powerful MPEG-2 compression tools. Not surprisingly, the quality of the source material directly affects the quality of the final MPEG stream. At JAP1 GRAPHICS, the majority of materials are encoded from either Digital BetaCam or BetaCam SP tape stock. Every 5.1 surround mix for Dolby Digital can fold down to stereo output.
This enables consumers who do not have a 5.1 decoder to hear the audio soundtrack as a stereo mix. MPEG-2 and MPEG-1 CBR/VBR encoding via Sonic SD-2000 Digi-beta, BetaSP, DVCam, 3/4", 1", VHS. Source audio for DVD typically is encoded from a MDM (Modular Digital Multitrack)
format such as Tascam DA-88 (this is the source format most often used for Dolby-Digital 5.1 audio encoding).
